The Living Museum is excited to collaborate with Caroline Gerdes, a recent graduate from Louisiana State University. After receiving a National Geographic Young Explorers Grant, she set out to conduct an oral history project about the Ninth Ward (where her father and paternal grandparents grew up). Through interviews with Ninth Ward residents, Gerdes seeks to record the community’s full history – its immigrant beginnings, the development of jazz, the Depression and Prohibition, Desegregation and hurricanes. Excerpts from Gerdes’ interviews will be included throughout the Living Museum’s exhibits.
